Note: - National journalists must provide a copy of their national ID or passport. - Freelance journalists must provide a reference letter from an organization that publishes their work. - International journalists must provide a copy of their valid work permit and passport, as well as a copy of their accreditation/ press card from their country of origin. - Student journalists can only be issued permits to their field practicums demand.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to apply for media registration: 1. Gather Required Documents: - Completed Application Form: Download the media registration application form from the SSMA website ([link to SSMA media registration form]). - Valid Business Registration Certificate: This document proves your media outlet is a legally recognized business entity. - Valid Identification Documents: Provide copies of national IDs or passports for all individuals involved in the media outlet's ownership and management. - Outlet Profile: Write a succinct document that describes the goal, target audience, and editorial focus of your media outlet (website, newspaper, radio station, etc.). - Two News Examples of Work: To demonstrate your work style and commitment to ethical journalism practices, submit samples of your media content (broadcasts, articles, etc.). 2. Select the Method of Registration: There are two ways to register with the SSMA: a) Online Sign-Up: There is an online registration portal available on the SSMA website where you can electronically submit your application and upload the necessary files. b) In-Person Registration: Bring all required paperwork to the Media Authority offices in Telecom-House, Gumbo, Juba-South Sudan. 3. Pay the registration cost. A small fee is required for media registration. Information about the fee amount and payment options can be found on the South Sudan Media Authority website or from the office personnel. 4. Attend a workshop on media ethics: The SSMA will require you to attend a media ethics workshop after your application is accepted. Important responsible journalism concepts are covered in this workshop. 5. Get your certificate of registration: You will obtain your official media registration certificate from the Media Authority upon completion of the workshop.
