Registration of Media Organizations/Enterprises
The Media Authority's licensing process ensures media enterprises in South Sudan meet standards of professionalism and ethics. The licensing process promotes pluralism and diversity in the media landscape.
Pursuant to the purpose for regulating the development of media in South Sudan with the view to promoting independent pluralistic media, in accordance with section 3 (1) of the Media Authority Act 2013, media houses, institutions, associations, unions, and other media organizations/enterprises seeking to engage in commercial or non-profit activities shall register as required by law.
The Authority, in accordance with section 35 (2) and section 47 of the Act, set out procedures for submission of applicants and description of information to be provided, and the required annual license fees.
After the submission, the Media Authority reviews the application and issues a license if it is satisfied that the enterprise meets all of the requirements. The license will specify the type of media service that the enterprise is authorized to provide, the area of operation of the enterprise, and the duration of the license.
The applicants shall include the following information about the media organ/enterprise:
- Official registered name of the media organisation/enterprise
- Address and contact numbers of the media organization/enterprise
- Organizational/management structure (organogram)
- Authenticated list of Board of Directors
- Lists of technical and management staff of the enterprise
- The technical capacity and facilities to deliver the services
- Copy of the media organization's Articles of Association.
- A valid copy of the Certificate of Incorporation
- A valid copy of the Tax Identification Certificate.
- A programme schedule in case of broadcasting media
- Periodicity of the publication in case of print media
- Description of the products/services
- the language (s) of information
- Area of operation and coverage
- Registered Capital or Sources of Finance
- Type of media service in case of associations, union and lobby groups.
The Media Authority has the power to suspend or revoke a license if a media enterprise breaches the terms of its license or the Media Authority Act, 2013.
