The South Sudan Media Authority monitors the media to ensure that it complies with media ethics and access to information laws. This includes monitoring harmful content such as hate speech and mis/disinformation and ensuring that media outlets provide accurate and balanced reporting.
The South Sudan Media Authority monitors the media through a variety of methods, including
- Reading and listening to news reports
- Monitoring social media
- Receiving complaints from the public
When Media Authority finds that a media outlet is violating media ethics or access to information laws, it takes action. Below are the repercussions.
- Issuing a warning to the media outlet
- Requiring the media outlet to correct or remove inaccurate or misleading information
- Suspending or revoking the media outlet's license
